Learn How to Make Films that You're Proud Of, One Step at a Time

Welcome to the Filmmaker's Guide to Success!

First things first, a high five is in order.

Alright, now let's get down to business and cover everything you need to know to get started with the Filmmaker's Guide to Success. Here's the quick version.

  1. The course itself doesn't start until Monday, October 2nd. I'm going to be out of town and disconnected for the second half of September, so I don't want the course to start until I'm able to be around and provide support.
  2. Sign up for the Slack chat community and send me a message to get added to the #fgs channel. That's where you can check in for accountability during the course, as well as chat with me and other students.
  3. Sign up for ofCourseBooks, the software that makes the fun interactive workbooks in the course possible. Just click the embedded workbook down below.

How Coaching Will Work

First off, congrats on snagging a few free coaching sessions with me! That's the absolute best thing you could have done to ensure you see results faster with this course.

The main thing you need to know right now is that coaching sessions will start once you've made your way through the course, so in about a month.

I want the sessions to be centered around helping you make progress and overcome roadblocks, not teaching you things that you'd learn in the course anyway. So go through the course, learn this stuff, and then once it's time for coaching, we'll both be working from the same foundation of ideas, which will help us achieve more in our sessions.

A day or so after you've received the last lesson, I'll be sending you an email so that you can fill out a quick pre-coaching questionnaire and schedule your first session. From there, we'll play it by ear and schedule the rest of the sessions in a way that makes sense for your goals and your schedule.

Make Sure to Sign Up for the Chat Community

Community and accountability are a big part of how this course works. Because we're going to be building daily routines and setting ambitious goals, that accountability and support will be a key tool for helping you succeed. So please, sign up for this.

Anyhow, to join our Slack community, just hit this big, pretty button.

Pro Tip: If you want constant access to this community (and push notifications for announcements and messages), make sure you download the phone and computer apps for Slack.

Once you're all settled in Slack, you'll want to get added to the private #fgs channel, which is where we'll be communicating about this course.

In order to do that, just click "Direct Messages" in the sidebar and search for my name (Robert Hardy), then send me a nice message asking to get into the channel. Or you can just use this pre-written message:

"Hey @rob, can you add me to the #fgs channel? That'd be swell."

Using the Interactive Workbooks!

One of the coolest things about this course is the interactive workbooks at the bottom of each lesson.

These are designed to help you apply the lesson to your life, and to make the whole experience more interactive and fun. You'll even be able to see how other students are answering the questions directly on the lesson pages.

In order to use these workbooks, however, you need an account on ofCourseBooks, the software I'm using to power this whole experience. Don't worry, it's quick and painless, and I personally know the folks who run this company. You don't have to worry about weird spam or anything like that.

Speaking of workbooks, here's a sample one for you to fill out right now. Just click on the workbook to create your account, and then get to work! (If you don't see the workbook embedded below, try refreshing the page or clicking here.)

So that's all you have to know for the time being.

I've put my heart and soul into this course, and I've done everything I can to make it as valuable as possible for you. I think you'll dig it.

See you on October 2nd for the introductory lesson,

-Rob
