Welcome to the Filmmaker's Guide to Success!
First things first, a high five is in order.
Alright, now let's get down to business and cover everything you need to know to get started with the Filmmaker's Guide to Success. Here's the quick version.
- Sign up for the Slack chat community and send me a message to get added to the #success channel. That's where you can chat with me (or other students) about whatever lesson you're currently working on.
- Sign up for my super cool directory app that lets you sort through everyone in the community by their interests and locations. It's helpful for finding collaborators and friends!
- Sign up for ofCourseBooks, the software that makes the fun interactive workbooks in the course possible. Just click the embedded workbook down below.
A Quick Note About Coaching
First off, congrats on snagging a few coaching sessions with me. That's the absolute best thing you could have done to ensure you see results faster with this course.
Anyhow, I should tell you a little bit about how that will work. The main thing you need to know right now is that coaching sessions will start once you've made your way through the course, so in about a month.
The coaching itself will be structured in the same way as the course.
- In session one, we'll dive into your definition of success and how to achieve it.
- In session two we'll dive into the topic of money and make sure you have a solid gameplan.
- In session three we'll dive into your ideal body of work and how to start building it up.
- And lastly, in session four we'll start you working on some helpful practices that will boost your success.
A day or so after you've received the last lesson, I'll be sending you an email so that you can schedule your first session. From there, we'll play it by ear and do the following two sessions roughly one week apart.
This Course Comes With a Rad Chat Community
No online course would be complete without a community, and the one I've built for the Filmmaker's Guide to Success is among the best.
For starters, the community is built in Slack (a super cool chat platform). It's significantly nicer to use than something like a forum or a facebook group. You can chat individually with people, or in groups that are interested in a certain topic.
Here's an overview of how it works:
Anyhow, to join our Slack community, just hit this big, pretty button.
Pro Tip: If you want constant access to this community (and push notifications for announcements and messages), make sure you download the phone and computer apps for Slack.
Once you're all settled in Slack, you'll want to get added to the private #success channel, which is where we'll be communicating about this course.
In order to do that, just click "Direct Messages" in the sidebar and search for my name (Robert Hardy). Click on it and send me the following message:
"Hey @rob, can you add me to the #success channel? That'd be swell."
And a Nifty Directory for Finding New Collaborators
In addition to the Slack community, FGS comes with access to a cool directory of indie filmmakers. Just imagine being able to search through the entire community of indie filmmakers based on their interests, skills, and where they live. It's even got an interactive map you can use to find people!
This directory is small right now as of this writing, but don't worry, my big goal this year is to start getting it into the hands of as many indie filmmakers as I can. It's going to be an incredibly valuable resource by the time I'm done.
Hooray for Interactive Workbooks!
One of the coolest things about this course is the interactive workbooks at the bottom of each lesson.
These are designed to help you apply the lesson to your life, and to make the whole experience more interactive and fun. You'll even be able to see how other students are answering the questions directly on the lesson pages.
In order to use these workbooks, however, you need an account on ofCourseBooks, the software I'm using to power this whole experience. Don't worry, it's quick and painless, and I personally know the folks who run this company. You don't have to worry about weird spam or anything like that.
Speaking of workbooks, here's a sample one for you to fill out right now. Just click on the workbook to create your account, and then get to work! (If you don't see the workbook embedded below, try refreshing the page or clicking here.)
So that's all you have to know for the time being.
I've put my heart and soul into this course, and I've done everything I can to make it as valuable as possible for you. I think you'll dig it.
See you tomorrow morning for the introductory lesson,
